About Jointech App

JOINTECH Care is a digital platform designed to help elderly communities in the former Soviet Union stay socially connected through accessible technology.

The platform combines:

  • A senior-friendly mobile app

  • Social video-based communities

  • Daily activity management

  • Wellness and care services

  • A web-based admin system for local organizations and curators

The core mission was to reduce loneliness and digital barriers by creating an intuitive experience that encourages social participation, routine, and confidence in technology.

Pain Points

Social Isolation & Low Digital Confidence

Many elderly users experienced loneliness and limited social interaction, especially those with reduced mobility or limited access to community activities.

At the same time, most existing digital platforms were too complex, overloaded, or intimidating for senior users.

Cognitive Load & Navigation Complexity

Traditional communication and scheduling apps require:

  • Multiple steps

  • Small touch targets

  • Complex gestures

  • Overwhelming interfaces

For elderly users, this created frustration, confusion, and abandonment.

Accessibility Challenges

The platform had to support:

  • Aging vision

  • Reduced motor skills

  • Low digital literacy

  • Multilingual users

  • Older Android devices with limited performance

Accessibility was not an enhancement, it was the foundation of the entire experience.

Features

A Clear Home Screen as an Emotional Anchor

The homepage was designed as a stable and reassuring entry point.

The interface provides:

  • A personalized greeting

  • Immediate visibility of upcoming activities

  • Quick access to the most important actions

  • Large navigation buttons with clear labels and icons

The design reduces uncertainty and helps users instantly understand:
“What should I do next?”

My Day - Simplifying Daily Structure

The “My Day” module became the heart of the experience.

It allows users to:

  • View upcoming club meetings

  • Manage personal tasks

  • Receive reminders

  • Join video calls directly from the schedule

Special attention was given to:

  • Chronological organization

  • Clear visual hierarchy

  • Color differentiation between social events and personal tasks

  • Reduced interaction complexity

This feature supports routine, independence, and cognitive stability.

Social Video Communities Designed for Seniors

JOINTECH Social introduced video-based clubs and one-on-one calls in an elderly-friendly environment.

The UX focused on:

  • Extremely simplified joining flows

  • Minimal setup friction

  • Familiar interaction patterns

  • Guided participation during calls

The platform transformed video calls from a technical challenge into a social experience.

Accessibility-First Design System

The interface was designed according to WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility principles.

Key UX decisions included:

  • Large typography

  • High contrast colors

  • Simplified layouts

  • Large touch targets

  • Minimal gesture dependency

  • Clear feedback states

  • Reduced cognitive overload

The entire product was optimized for older Android devices and low digital literacy users.

Desktop Admin Platform

To support the Jointech Care mobile application, I designed a comprehensive desktop administration platform that enables organizations to manage users, content, clubs, and operational workflows.

Discovery & Information Architecture

The first step was translating a detailed PRD into a scalable information architecture. I mapped the different user roles, business rules, and system entities to understand how administrators interact with the platform and how their actions affect the mobile experience.

The platform was designed around role-based permissions, ensuring that each user type (Super Admin, Admin, Program Manager, and Club Lead) only has access to the relevant data and actions.

Designing for Complex Workflows

Unlike the mobile app, which focuses on simplicity for older adults, the desktop platform needed to support complex administrative tasks while remaining efficient and easy to navigate.

The result is a unified administration platform that allows organizations to efficiently manage the entire Jointech ecosystem - from client data and social clubs to surveys, notifications, external applications, and support requests - while providing a consistent, scalable experience across all administrative workflows.

Learning & Takeaways

This project demonstrated how thoughtful UX can directly improve emotional well-being, confidence, and social participation for elderly users.

By reducing friction and simplifying digital interactions, the platform transformed technology from a barrier into a bridge.

Key outcomes included:

  • Increased participation in social video clubs

  • Higher engagement with daily activities

  • Reduced support dependency for onboarding and navigation

  • Improved confidence using digital tools

  • Stronger connection between elderly users and local communities

This project proved that accessible, human-centered design can create real emotional impact at scale.
